We are still providing delivery services to anyone in the area who is staying home to stay safe - whether that is because you are continuing to shield, or maybe you have been asked to isolate by the track and trace service.
But we are also thinking about our future too. We are looking to set up a permanent local support network - you can have a say in that by completing our survey here
What we are helping with?
If you are staying home to stay safe, we can help with the following:
We cover Southwell (Nottinghamshire) and the surrounding area.
If you are staying home to stay safe, call
Phones are staffed daily 9am to 5pm, with 24 hour answerphone
Calls are answered via the Southwell Town Council Hub who will direct you to a volunteer
Can you help?
We are run by volunteers and are sure to need more help in the near future, but at the moment we have temporarily paused requesting more. We are really busy working through everyone who has applied so far. Thanks to all of you who have completed our form.
We will switch the "volunteer button" back on soon, so please keep an eye on this page. Thank you!
We are also raising funds to sustain our work into the future - on Crowdfunder.co.uk. Please click the button to see more.
Southwell Torpedos was founded on March 15th 2020 in response to the Covid-19 crisis. Torpedos is an anagram of "doorstep" which is where we provide help. We have made over 500 doorstep deliveries of prescriptions, food and other essentials to those in Southwell and the surrounding area who are staying home to stay safe - all thanks the the amazing team of local volunteers who have stepped forward since March.
We are now established as a community support group with an appropriate constitution, managing committee and bank account.
We are working with Southwell Town Council, who take telephone calls at their central hub, before allocating to us. And we couldn't operate without the support of local businesses who are dispensing medications, and are where we shop. We are also working closely with Southwell Live-At Home Scheme.
Whilst we are focused now on needs created by the current crisis, our secondary aim is to establish an enduring legacy of volunteers and community support structures which can continue to deliver help to the vulnerable and isolated in our community after the immediate Covid-19 crisis has passed.
If you know of anyone who you think needs help, please let them have our number: 01636 330005.
